About Our Turn to Serve
Mission Statement
Our Mission is to assist combat disabled Veterans who return from foreign service by providing them with interior design recommendations, building materials, and contracting assistance to modify their homes to accommodate their disability.
Directors of Our Turn to Serve
David Harris, President
David is currently the Executive Vice President and Executive Underwriting Officer for American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services, Inc. in Roanoke, Indiana. American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services, Inc. is an insurance and risk services company specializing in the sports and entertainment industries. He is one of the original founding partners of the firm. David also serves on the Board of the Roanoke Economic Development Organization and is the Chairman of the Roanoke Design Guidelines Committee which is responsible for developing building guidelines for the community.
Shirley Harris, Executive Vice President
Shirley is Executive Vice President of Our Turn to Serve and serves as Treasurer of the company. Shirley is responsible for managing all financial aspects of Our Turn to Serve. Shirley has provided volunteer services for various not for profit organizations including the Roanoke Downtown Beautification Committee, the National Association of Insurance Women, the Aboite Lutheran Church landscaping committee. She has also served as a children's instructor for Bible Study Fellowship in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Shirley is committed to serving returning veterans and played a role in supporting a sponsorship program for the 2nd Light Armored Reconaissance unit of the Marine Corps while they were stationed in Fallujah, Iraq.
Emily Hart, Vice President
Emily Hart is First Vice President of the Board of Our Turn to Serve. She is responsible for the completion and oversight for all interior design consultation. Emily has worked for an interior design company for 4 years as an interior design assistant, and will soon graduate from Indiana University with a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design. Emily's training focuses on residential design with a major emphasis on Universal Design and ADA.
She has experience with AutoCAD drawings, floor plan renderings/layouts, perspective and isometric drawings, color/finish selections, and ADA regulations. Emily also competes in local scholarship pageants which has given her a chance to compete for the state Miss Indiana Pageant, a preliminary for the Miss America Pageant.
Eric Harris, Board of Directors
Eric is a recent graduate of Indiana-Purudue University at Fort Wayne with a major in General Studies. Eric is an experienced entrepreneur having owned and managed Dynaspark, Inc., a company that manufactures and sells after market distributors for high performance Corvette and Camaro engines. During his college career, Eric developed an interest in wine making and recently started working as the assistant wine maker at Satek Winery in Fremont, Indiana.
