How We Work with Disabled Veterans

Our Turn to Serve coordinates with local Veterans Administration staff to locate Veterans in the Northeast Indiana region with combat related disabilities. Once a Veteran who is in need is identified, Our Turn to Serve will contact them and have the veteran complete a survey to learn more about them and their need. Representatives from Our Turn to Serve will then discuss the available resources with the Veteran. If a Veteran qualifies, we will:

• Perform a walk through of the Veteran’s home identifying those areas that may need to be modified to accommodate specific disabilities.
• Complete plan drawings that indicate those areas within the Veteran’s home that need to be modified.
• Coordinate with the Veteran and the Veteran’s Administration for application for grants to secure funding for home modification.
• Identify those areas that may not qualify for grants and seek assistance from contractors and building suppliers to complete the necessary home modifications.

Our goal is to assist the Veteran in having their home fully modified to accommodate their disability through grants, volunteer assistance, and material donations.
